Most Rewatchable Scene

Bill Simmons▶ 1:14:56The scene at the end where Mickey and Heather silently size each other up for 30 seconds ('you don't love her because she's unlovable... like a hooker')
Sean Fennessey▶ 1:15:26The unspoken scene between Heather and Mickey, and also the scene where Franny tries to reunite with Heather and she closes the car door as he says 'Thanks for the memories, you ruined my life'
Wesley Morris▶ 1:15:01The 'is he gay' montage, praised for its filmmaking (matching two-shots with camera panning)

Stephen A. Smith Hottest Take Award

Wesley Morris▶ 1:25:15Manhattan Murder Mystery is Woody Allen's best movie

Big Kahuna Burger Award

Bill Simmons▶ 1:30:44Notes the general use of bottled beer and Budweiser/Coca-Cola product placement (the 'family drinks Budweiser' branding) as best use of food/drink, and agrees the Ice House moment was odd, but doesn't lock in one definitive pick
Sean Fennessey▶ 1:31:25Francis drinking an Ice House beer when they're down at the shore with Jennifer Aniston's parents
Wesley Morris▶ 1:31:14The weird beer moment at the bar where Mickey Fitzpatrick, an Irish man, drinks a canned Guinness

Is There a Better Title?

Bill Simmons▶ 1:36:47No better title needed, but likes 'She's the One' or 'Irish' as alternatives
Sean Fennessey▶ 1:37:20'Irish Goodbye' is a great title
Wesley Morris▶ 1:36:52'Irish Goodbye' or 'Irish Curse' — prefers 'Irish Goodbye'

Butch's Girlfriend Award

Bill Simmons▶ 1:37:44Mike McGlone's character (Mickey) not wanting to have sex with Jennifer Aniston's character in 1995, delivering the line comparing it to trading a '74 Buick for a Porsche.
Wesley Morris▶ 1:41:19Agrees the Aniston relationship subplot is underwritten/weak, noting the movie 'just isn't psychological enough' and the Mickey/Heather relationship needed more scenes to feel earned; also discusses Aniston's broader career context rather than adding a separate scene pick.

Casting What-Ifs

Bill Simmons▶ 1:50:36Recounts Ed Burns' book noting Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Heather Graham, Amanda Peet, Anne Heche, Lauryn Hill, and Jennifer Garner all auditioned for the two lead female roles between 'She's the One' and 'No Looking Back'; jokes about Jennifer Lopez as the Cameron Diaz role being intriguing; also proposes Susan Sarandon and eventually Talia Shire as fun casting alternatives for the mother role in 'The Brothers McMullen'
Sean Fennessey▶ 1:55:51Agrees Talia Shire as the mother role is 'kind of interesting,' engages with the casting alternatives discussion but doesn't propose his own definitive pick
Wesley Morris▶ 1:51:00Reacts to the star-studded audition list ('everybody wanted to be in Ed Burns' second movie'), rejects Susan Sarandon and Kathleen Turner as too big/distracting for the mother role, suggests Diane Keaton but calls her 'too waspy'

Apex Mountain

Bill Simmons▶ 1:56:30Goes through cast list: Ed Burns yes, Amanda Peet no, Mike McGlone yes, Cameron Diaz no, John Mahoney no (though this is his Frasier/Primal Fear era)
Sean Fennessey▶ 1:56:45Agrees Mahoney's peak already happened by 1996 (citing Frasier and Primal Fear era)

Probably Unanswerable Questions

Bill Simmons▶ 2:02:43Jokes the sequel would answer 'when did he start f---ing Amanda Peet' and it ends with Frank Vincent murdering him. Also asks why Cameron Diaz's character only had a sugar daddy and a married Long Island goon as options, and why she'd drive cross-country instead of taking her flight to New Orleans.
Sean Fennessey▶ 2:06:03Notes the marriage-in-24-hours plot is just a narrative device to move the character/story along, and cites Ebert's review paragraph listing multiple unresolved plot-logic questions (e.g., the cab driver marrying a girl he just met) as proof the movie doesn't hold up to scrutiny, though he still enjoys it.
Wesley Morris▶ 2:04:47Says Ed Burns has no interest in exploring the darker/riskier version of this story (the shotgun marriage plot), and singles out the hardware store guy stealing John Mahoney's wife as his favorite, best-written detail in the movie. Also floats that Heather may have lied about getting married that morning just to get away.

Sequel/Prequel/Limited Series/Remake

Bill Simmons▶ 2:06:48This would be an all-Black-cast prestige Apple TV+ show in 2026 — untouchable premise for a remake/limited series

Who Won the Movie

Bill Simmons▶ 2:14:24Cameron Diaz, though he agonized over McGlone or Tom Petty; agrees Edward Burns is the long-term winner
Sean Fennessey▶ 2:14:47Leans toward Edward Burns as the winner long-term, since the movie cemented his place in American filmmaking for decades
Wesley Morris▶ 2:14:19Cameron Diaz wins the movie (also floated Edward Burns as a long-term winner)
